Jamie Bridge will deliver the key note speech
Over recent months members of staff and pupils from Bedford School, Bedford Modern School, Bedford Girls’ School and Mark Rutherford School, along with staff from the Trust office and Uprising have been working together to plan an exciting new conference for Year 12 pupils.
Ready2Lead? was originally the brainchild of Simon Everitt at Bedford School, who has completed the Trust’s Inspiring Leaders Programme. The conference is being promoted to all senior schools across Bedford Borough and will take place on 2nd October at Bedford School. His belief, that “leading others arises naturally from an appreciation of our own individuality and the unique contribution we can make to the world” means that this conference is for anyone who wants to develop themselves.
There will be a variety of practical workshops, one of which will be led by the team of student ambassadors involved in setting up the conference. The team has also engaged Future Foundations to deliver some sessions. This organisation runs leadership programmes for young people, building confidence, encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own success and helping them to identify their life goals as well as pathways to achieving those goals.
Former pupil of Bedford Modern School and Mark Rutherford School Jamie Bridge will deliver the keynote address. Jamie is Chief Operating Officer of the International Drug Policy Consortium and is a passionate advocate for civil society engagement, harm reduction, human rights, HIV prevention and drug policy reform.
Also addressing the students, is Carole Stone CBE, an internationally renowned author, broadcaster and a professional networker with over 52,000 contacts in her directory. Carole started her career as a newsroom secretary and went on to become producer of Radio 4’s flagship discussion programme Any Questions.
The conference, which will be free of charge to state schools, is expected to have around 100 delegates from across our own schools and local senior and upper schools and colleges.
