Today (World Book Day) marked the first of our 450th Anniversary celebration events with the launch of The Bedford Chronicles.
Local councillors, headteachers, history teachers, business leaders, news editors and staff from the borough’s libraries, museums, galleries and tourist industry gathered to celebrate the launch of the book at The Bedford Swan Hotel.
Also in attendance were Richard Fuller MP and Charles Whitbread.
Pupils from Kingsoak Primary School were invited to represent all those children in the Borough receiving a free copy, and they were presented with their copy by Trust Chairman, Murray Stewart.
The Trust commissioned 6,700 copies of a special edition featuring Sir William Harpur to commemorate the anniversary of its founding. The book has been delivered over the past few days to all lower, primary and middle schools across the borough, with copies for every Year 4 and 5 pupil and an additional set of 30 for each school to retain as a classroom resource.
