16 Jun 2016

Many of The Harpur Trust’s Almshouse residents attended the popular annual Summer Party on Thursday 16th June, which this year, was held at Bedford School.

The party for over 90 guests, also included residents from other sheltered accommodation and extra care providers and organisations concerned with supporting older people.

The festivities began with afternoon tea served by boys from Bedford School and Bedford Girls’ School to a beautiful piano accompaniment by pupil Brian Ng.

Children from each of the Trust’s four schools, Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory, Bedford, Bedford Girls’ and Bedford Modern, then entertained guests with a host of music, performance and dance with everything from modern tap dance to the Can Can. Pupils from Bedford Girls Junior School performed a scene from the Lion King whilst the children of Pilgrims sang a range of songs including ‘Let’s go fly a kite’.

In this, the Trust’s 450th anniversary year, a special birthday cake was cut by Murray Stewart (Chairman), after which guests enjoyed a singalong with old favourites such as ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’ led by the Director of Music at Bedford School, Mr Joss Sanders.
