An Eco inspection of the school took place during the summer term. We were delighted to be awarded the top accolade from Eco Schools for outstanding eco work and have once again been accredited with Green Flag status. The inspector was extremely impressed with the knowledge of the children, especially the Eco Warriors, particularly given their young age and noted how truly embedded eco practice is within the school and across the curriculum. Eco is not just about recycling but is also about encouraging more sustainable ways of living. In support of this, we partnered with Sustrans (a walking and cycling charity) to help us to deliver a range of activities and events that encourage more sustainable ways of transport. These included Dr Bike, The Santa Cycle, Spin Art Bike, Smoothie Bike, scootability and balance bikes.
We very much value our close relationships with all the other Harpur Trust Schools. Throughout the year, the pupils from Bedford Girls’ School, Bedford School and Bedford Modern School support many of the events we hold at Pilgrims; from sports day to inter-school competitions from class assemblies to musical performances. For many of the pupils, it is a wonderful opportunity to return to Pilgrims where their Harpur Trust journey started.
We always like to let the children know what they are doing well and what they could improve on. So, when we received the results of our ISI Inspection in June, we were able to say “Well done everyone”. Yet again, our Early Years provision (under 5 years) was judged to be ‘outstanding’ in each of the eight areas. Our ISI Compliance inspection, which took place at the same time, was also successful with the school meeting all the regulatory requirements.
However, not to be complacent, we also sent out a Parental Survey along with the children’s end of year reports. The feedback was extremely positive with 100% of our parents strongly agreeing/agreeing that they are happy with their child’s experience at Pilgrims School. One area which has been identified to work on is the method used to communicate with our parents and the frequency. We have already started to look at ways to improve this.
