Our achievements in 2017/2018 once again demonstrate how we future proof the girls, to develop the skills and attributes to ensure that they move confidently into the wider world with independence, integrity and intellect.
Our academic results were outstanding, 71% of all GCSE papers achieved an A*-A, with 28% being awarded the higher level 9. 31 girls obtained 10 A*/A equivalents. Our IB and A Levels results were equally as impressive with over 75% of entries being awarded A*- B (or equivalent). Our International Baccalaureate Diploma average of 37.5 points was superb and one student achieved an extraordinary 45 points, placing her in the top 0.1% worldwide. 92% of Upper Sixth leavers have accepted places at their first or second choice universities.
A BGS education, however, is much wider than just examination results. We currently are ranked 4th in the UK for girls’ sports demonstrating the depth and breadth of our successes on the sporting arena. Our new state of the art Drama Wing is enabling us to develop ambitious productions and a highlight this year was the first ever all female interpretation of The Lord of the Flies. Music and the Creative Arts go from strength to strength, and across every year group, our students are involved in community led programmes, raising funds and working alongside many local charities.
Our ongoing investment in 21st century facilities continued this year with the redevelopment of our Science Department. We collaborated with designers to set the benchmark in terms of innovation in science teaching environments, providing the perfect environment for enquiry led teaching, with the focus on independent problem solving and creativity in STEM education.
Every year at BGS we strive to encourage students to explore new interests, take risks and develop passions, 2017/18 was no exception.
